When a woman with a new breast cancer diagnosis comes to me, the first thing I look at is not the report. It is her. Then I check three things: the hormone receptor status, the HER2 status, and the stage. Those three together tell me most of what I need to know about whether chemotherapy belongs in the plan at all. Many women are surprised to hear they may not need it.

A woman facing cancer does not need to be rushed. She needs time, she needs clarity, and she needs a doctor who can speak to her in her own language. I lay out the treatment options, explain the trade-offs of each one, and then the decision is yours and your family's to make.
My work in medical oncology is to control the cancer through chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, and targeted therapy. When surgery becomes part of the picture, I refer to the specialists within the CION network.
